To add new information to a dashboard, you can create viewlets.
Each viewlet includes access to action menus. See Action menus below for more information.
Each viewlet also includes a Projects list that controls what can be seen in the viewlet. For more information about projects, see Select a project below.
Create a new viewlet
To add a viewlet to your dashboard:
- Click the blue Viewlet button from the top right of the screen. The Create Viewlet dialog box opens.
- Choose the type of viewlet you want to create. (When you create a viewlet from the WorkSpace dashboard, only the Create a temporary viewlet using search option is available.)
- The Create new viewlet window is displayed when Create a new viewlet using object search or Create a temporary viewlet using search is selected. Temporary viewlets are only available during the current session. For these viewlets, the Temporary checkbox is selected.
- Select the Product for which you want to create a viewlet.
For each viewlet, available options are based on the product that is selected from the Product list. Remote queue managers, however, are not product specific. Therefore they are included in Node viewlets for every product, regardless of the product selection.
- Select the object type on the left side of the window.
- Complete the fields as required. Other selections also depend on the selected product. For example, if you are creating an IBM MQ viewlet, then the Node list only includes IBM MQ nodes.
- Use Attribute filter and, for queue viewlets, Find messages to search for specific cases.
- Click Save Changes. The viewlet is displayed at the bottom of the current dashboard.
Create a new viewlet consisting of favorite objects
The Add favorite viewlet dialog box is displayed when Create a new viewlet for favorite objects is selected from the Create Viewlet dialog box. See What are favorite objects viewlets for more information.
Create a new viewlet from a file
If you or another user has exported viewlet properties to a file (see Exporting viewlet parameters to a file), you can import that file to create a new viewlet.
- Select the Import viewlet from file option from the Create Viewlet dialog box.
- After you choose a file, the Viewlet Name is filled in, based on the file contents.
- Click Import to add the viewlet to the dashboard.
When you click on the square immediately to the left of an object within a viewlet, the action pop-up menu opens. The box will remain checked until you collapse the viewlet, change dashboards, or click the checkbox again to clear it.
Note that the menu is transparent when your mouse is not hovering over the menu. This makes it easier to view other objects when selecting multiple objects.
The drop-down menu becomes fully visible when your mouse is hovering over it.
When multiple objects are selected, you can click on the in the header to uncheck all selected objects.
You can check the header check box to select all objects in the viewlet and uncheck it to deselect all objects.
If there are more than 100 objects presented in the viewlet you will not be able to select all objects and the header checkbox will be disabled.
Select a project
By default, the Projects list in a viewlet includes the unique descriptions of all user groups that you can view.
If you have been assigned a role with the right to Access All Projects (such as the Administrator role), then in addition to the All selection, your Project list may include the descriptions of certain user groups, to allow you to replicate the Navigator experience of users in those groups. See the definition of Principle Name in the Security Manager user group management article for more information.
When All is selected, you can click the arrow next to the list arrow to show the workgroup server that you're connected to.
If you have more than one workgroup server connection, each one is listed, and you can switch between them.
